Barentsforestilling

An exotic travel through the north

In spite of big similarities between people living in the Barents Region there are still many differences. Languages are one of the bigger ones. As a Norwegian or a Swedish it can be difficult to listen to Russian or Finnish. It can be very hard to understand for an untrained ear. Luckily we understand body language better than language. A cheerful hello or a bowed head is universal. The Barents performance Sunday afternoon is a possibility to travel through Sweden, Finland, Russia and Norway. A tour through all the counties of he Barents Region in just one night. If you know many languages or not does not matter.

This is a night where movement traditions from all four countries are presented in a form which highlights their differences and similarities. The entertainment is diverse, reaching from the traditional to the modern, from the tempo filled to the meditative. The artistic collaboration between the four choreographers presented in the Barents performance is quite exceptional because of the geographical distance between them.

The network organisation Barents DanceCouncil (BDC) has initiated this exciting collaboration. BDC is working on strengthening the dance in the Barents Region. Dance artists, choreographers and teachers gather under BDC to be apart of an international network where professionals in the field of dance from four different countries meet, collaborate, evolve and create new work. The board of BDC is located in Hammerfest, Norway, closely linked to Stellaris DanceTheatre´s administration. DanceFestival Barents and Hammerfest is therefore extremely happy to host the premiere of the Barents performance.
