Nesten Fame (Almost Fame)

Trine Saltermark
Festival artist Trine Saltermark has travelled around the country with the school project Almost Fame, which challenges student to make their own film with dance or movement is a part of the storyline. Students from Breilia School has participated in the Almost Fame project this winter.

Making a dance film is a lot more work than you think. Not only did they have to think about the technical part, but they also had to work with movement, dance and manage a choreography that will work on the screen. The material recorded then had to be planned and edited. Not an easy task.

- Yes it is a big challenge, but it gives a good insight into how planned and detailed everything has to be in order to make a film, says choreographer Trine Saltermark.
- We have been working with contemporary dance. In this case we have put together everyday movement in a way that creates dance, she explains.

Choreographers Trine Saltermark and Gull Øzger have worked with the students on the project Almost Fame for two weeks. The school project is a collaboration between The Cultural Rucksack in Finnmark, Breilia School and Stellaris DanceTheatre. Almost Fame has been to Svalbard, Finnmark, Troms, Nordland, Oslo and Rogaland.
The goal has been that everyone involved would have a finished product to watch. As always, the finished product depends on the raw material.

- The students have gained some experience in both choreography and technique. The next days will probably revolve around seeing themselves on the big screen at Hammerfest Cinema, says Trine Saltermark.

Trine Saltermark and Gull Øzger have both been hired by Stellaris DanceTheatre as regional choreographers in a project funded partly by North-Norwegian regional Dance stage. Stellaris DanceTheatre hires them in for the project. Both primarily have North of Norway as their working area where institutions and groups can profit from their knowledge and experience.

It won’t be exactly like the Fame movies twenty years ago – but almost!

The films will be shown for the 8th grade and the parents Tuesday the 20th at 8pm and Wednesday the 21st of March at 11:30am.
