An Dran Drin Drekt

Kartellet

Kartellet visits kindergardens Friday 12 November
Saturday 13 November there will be pop-ups by the City Hall at 11:30 and 12:30
before visiting the Trade fair 13:30 - 13:45

Kartellet offers weird tricks, fiddle games on stilts, crazy folk dancing and fun rules. The title and the rules are a rhythmic game, and we want to share with the world that the weird, fun game is worth its weight in gold.

An Drab Din Drekt consists of, among other things, neat football games and tackles, fiddle games on stilts, weird tricks, rhymes and rules from Grytøya and Vesterålen and hefty folk dancing from the northern hemisphere.

The performance is free, but any donations to DanseFestival Barents via VIPPS will be much appreciated Vipps # 117954 or search for DanseFestival Barents in the app, or via PayPal.

The renowned reviewer Judith Dybendahl wrote in performing arts after the premiere at the Bergen Festival in early June 2021:
Perhaps the show's greatest strength is that it succeeds in capturing the core of the spontaneity and logic found in play: the performers quickly switch between rhymes, rules and dance steps, and small inventions and dynamic changes between them drive it all forward.
She called An Drab Din Drekt dramaturgically elegant.

Premiered in 2021 at the Bergen Festival, then the Northern Norway Festival, Kalottspel and Tromsø Jazz Festival.

Performers Sigurd Johan Heide (dance), Vetle Springgard (dance), Jo Einar Sterten Jansen (stilts and fiddle).

About Kartellet
Kartellet (The Cartel) was originally a dance performance initiated and choreographed by Sigurd Johan Heide, and with newly composed music by Mariann Torset for the festival Kalottspel in 2012. Now they have established a dance company called Kartellet and Kartellet A/S , and has made five full-lenght performances since 2012 .

Kartellet are for us poetic images, an illusion. We hope that the audience will know the presence and gain a physical experience of musicality and dance. In other words: Kartellet wants to share dance with you. Interactivity in the performing arts can both encourage, provoke and engage the audience. Kartellet is offering the audience a sensuous experience, and the performances are through public participation and presence, a little different from time to time. Kartellet makes the audience become a part of the deepest premises of folk dance and folk music terms: proximity, participation and playfulness. And always with live music.
