How can dance enrich the lives of older people? How can artists create meaningful experiences that celebrate creativity, connection and participation throughout later life?
This seminar explores the growing field of dance and ageing, bringing together artistic practice, current research and practical approaches to creating engaging dance experiences for older adults. Participants will discover how dance can support physical, emotional and social wellbeing while offering opportunities for expression, communication and shared creativity.
Through presentations, discussion and practical exploration, the seminar will examine how artists can develop work that is inclusive, person-centred and responsive to the needs and experiences of older people. Topics include creative methodologies, co-creation, accessibility, intergenerational practice and the role of dance in health and community settings.
Alongside inspiring examples from international projects, participants will have the opportunity to explore practical movement tasks and share ideas in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Whether you are a dance artist, educator, community practitioner, healthcare professional, student or simply interested in the relationship between dance, creativity and ageing, this seminar offers inspiration, practical tools and new perspectives for working with one of the fastest-growing audiences in our society.
No previous experience of working with older people is required, and practical activities can be adapted to suit all levels of mobility.
